Saturday September 9th 4:00pm – 5:30pm

Poetry lovers, we’re happy to have author, Amba Elieff, back in the shop with her new publication, “Domesticated Demons”. Come in, have a seat and listen to Amba read a selection from her newest collection of poetry, which is “written for real people, about real life – raw, honest, and simple”. The reading begins at 4:00, and Amba will be here afterward for book signings and conversation.
Amba has been a closet poet most of her life. Thus, she doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing something. Her first book Maiden Mother Crone was published in 2022 and received the Imadjinn award for best Poetry collection in 2023. As a result, her second book has been highly anticipated. The second book, titled Domesticated Demons, builds on some of the themes found in Maiden Mother Crone, as will most future collections.
Amba writes poetry about life for real people – relationships, depression, motherhood, childhood, belonging, anxiety, work, insecurity, acceptance. She wants her poetry to help people reflect, begin conversations, see a new perspective, and most of all let people know that they aren’t alone. Many of her poems were written because she thought she was “the only one”. Through sharing her work she has learned none of us are really alone. She believes poetry should never be a labor, it should always be a gift.
