History and Origins of Charm Bracelets

Throughout time, charm bracelets have had various periods of popularity. Charm bracelets began appearing 600-400 years ago.  They had periods of popularity with various cultures, including Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and Hittites.

Charm bracelets were popular amongst the nobility in Victorian England.  Queen Elizabeth wore a charm bracelet and was known to give charms and bracelets as gifts.

Charms themselves can be decorative or represent a connection to family, hobbies, or events.

About The Artist

Loretta Marie Helfrich is the owner of Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop. As a practicing attorney for over 30 years, she is enjoying retirement by supporting talented local artists in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Her love of beautiful stones comes from a childhood spent with a geologist for a father and a nurse for a mother, both of whom appreciate beauty in nature. Loretta has been creating and designing jewelry for more than 20 years. She loves finding the right combination of beads and crystals to show off the movement and beauty found in the stone.
