What is Color Value

Color value in art refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. It is determined by the amount of light reflected by a color, ranging from white (the highest value, representing maximum lightness) to black (the lowest value, representing maximum darkness). Value is crucial in creating contrast, depth, and dimension in artworks, influencing how objects appear in terms of their brightness and shadow. In essence, color value contributes significantly to the overall mood, atmosphere, and visual impact of a piece of art.
