Our Fall Leaf Painting Class invites you to celebrate autumn by transforming three laser-cut wooden leaves into colorful seasonal artwork. Artist Katie Widzowski will guide participants as they explore fall colors, shading, and painted details using acrylic paints.
All materials will be provided. No previous painting experience is necessary.
Create Your Own Painted Autumn Leaves
During this hands-on workshop, each participant will paint three wooden leaf cutouts. Katie will provide actual fall leaves to use as visual inspiration. Their natural colors, markings, and variations will help guide your creative choices.
However, you do not need to copy nature exactly. You can work with traditional autumn shades or develop a color combination of your own. Katie will offer guidance on selecting colors, blending acrylic paints, adding dimension, and creating effective shading.
Each wooden leaf has a small hole at the top. Therefore, your finished pieces can be used as ornaments or incorporated into your fall decorating. Display them individually, group them together, or give one as a handmade seasonal gift.
What You Will Learn
This Fall Leaf Painting Class offers a relaxed introduction to painting on wood with acrylics. First, you will study the colors and details found in real leaves. Then, you will experiment with paint placement, layering, highlights, and shadows.
Katie will help you create depth while allowing your individual painting style to emerge. Because nature provides endless variety, no two sets of leaves will look exactly alike. You will leave with three finished pieces and new ideas for observing color in the natural world.
Meet Your Instructor
Katie Widzowski is a Kentucky-based oil painter who studied art in Boston before earning her BFA in Painting in 2015. Her work includes figurative compositions, still lifes, animals, and other imaginative subjects.
Katie often combines strong technical skills with bold color and expressive storytelling. Her high-chroma palette reflects her love of anime, pop culture, nostalgia, and dramatic visual narratives. In 2025, she founded the Melodramanticism movement, which blends romanticism, heightened emotion, fantasy, and playful theatricality.
For this workshop, Katie will bring her knowledge of color and painterly technique to a welcoming seasonal project.

Purple Paisley is a local artisan shop in Covington, Kentucky. The shop features work from more than 75 artists throughout Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. In addition, Purple Paisley regularly hosts classes, demonstrations, markets, and events that celebrate handmade art and creativity.

Register for the Fall Leaf Painting Class
Space is limited, so advance registration is recommended. The $25 class fee includes three laser-cut wooden leaves, acrylic paints, and all other materials needed during the workshop.
This class is presented with support from the Purple Paisley Arts Education Fund. The Fund helps make creative experiences more accessible while ensuring that participating artists receive fair compensation.
