Curious about Zines? Join Ohio artist Anne Skove for a hands-on introduction to the creative and accessible world of DIY zine-making. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will learn how to transform a single sheet of paper into a unique folded booklet ready for personal expression.
Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are small, self-published booklets that celebrate creativity, storytelling, and artistic freedom. Rooted in a strong do-it-yourself spirit, zines can include drawings, collage, handwritten text, poetry, comics, or anything else you can imagine. There are no strict rules—just an open invitation to experiment and have fun.
What You’ll Create
During this session, Anne will guide participants step-by-step through creating a classic mini zine format. You’ll explore simple folding and cutting techniques, layout ideas, and creative approaches to filling your pages. Whether you want to tell a story, share thoughts, create abstract art, or simply play with materials, this workshop offers a welcoming space to try something new.
All experience levels are welcome—no prior art or bookmaking skills required. Participants will leave with at least one completed mini zine and the knowledge to continue making more at home.
Materials: Paper and basic tools will be available. Participants are also welcome to bring favorite markers, pencils, collage materials, or small images to personalize their work.
